IT WAS CHRISTMAS AT LYNN TOO

IT WAS CHRISTMAS AT LYNN TOO
January 20, 2022 by author

As the Holy Catholic Church commemorated the Nativity liturgy on December 25, Lynn Chancel and Towers Mission was not left out as we, with carols and lections sang and meditated in our panoply on the solemnity of the Lord’s birth and mission to the world.

The Lord’s Mass as is celebrated today, is said to trace back to second century Antioch, present day Turkey and was certainly celebrated surreptitiously. With the conversion of Emperor Constantine in AD 306 and the subsequent adoption of Christianity as a state religion, Christmas was seen celebrated publicly in Rome for the first time in about AD 336. In AD 529, December 25 was declared the day of its commemoration by Pope Julius 1.

Perhaps the historical significance of the above is the fulfilment of the Matthew 1.21 foretold gospel that the Christ Child comes to set his people free and deliver them from their sins.

We did not lose sight of this redemptive biblio-historicity at Lynn as our clerical/ministering team led by the President of the Chancel took turns to intersperse the day’s nine lectionary with brief homiletical and meditative stations.
